WCHA E-News - August 15, 2007
100+ Members and counting!
The WCHA reached the 125 member mark just 10 days after announcing 75 members. Current WCHA members were out in force
during the Youth Quarter Horse World Championship proudly wearing bold "Leading the Way" buttons and passing out information.
You'll be able to see more of those members at the Reichert Celebration August 18-19 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the AQHA
Select World Championship at the end of this month in Amarillo.
Remember, the Founding Membership deadline has been extended to September 1 in order to take advantage of recent publicity
efforts, so click on the forward e-mail link below to share with your colleagues and friends.
Get out the Vote!
One of the privileges of becoming a founding member, besides the fact that the opportunity will never be offered again, is the
opporunity to ratify the first by-laws of the group and elect the first Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
By-laws will be submitted to the membership for approval by September 5 with ballots due by September 15.
A slate of officers and board of director nominees will be provided to the membership for vote on September 20 with ballots due by
October 1. Members will also be able to write in nominations at that time and will be informed of the election process via review
of the by-laws earlier in the month.
Join the Celebration October 17!
The WCHA will "officially" kick off as the newest association in the horse industry at a celebration October 17 at the
All American Quarter Horse Congress.
The event will be free to all members and interested persons, although a ticket will be required. WCHA will introduce its
slate of officers and board of directors, while representatives will be available to answer questions.
A membership meeting is being scheduled for earlier the same day, as well.

time, location and ticket distribution.
What's Happening Now?
The WCHA Steering Committee met August 9 in Fort Worth, Texas to review the association's progress and continue moving forward.
Besides the deadline dates established above, the WCHA is moving forward on the following items:
- Formalization of staffing and infrastructure
- Development of a web site
- Examining event and competition offerings
- Examining fund raising strategies.
So, how do you become involved?
If you have an interest in serving on a committee, just drop a line or e-mail julie@golatigo.com. Understandably,
there is a great deal of interest right now and while it is important to keep committees to a manageable size, your desire to
become involved is also important and a list of interested persons is being compiled for future reference.
Freqently Asked Questions?
Have some questions or being asked lots of questions by others? Funny? Us, too! Here are some answers that should help.
Why does the name of the association include Conformation Horse rather than Halter Horse?
The founders of the WCHA recognize that conformation is a crucial element to the soundness and athletic ability of the horse, regardless of the discipline in which it might be involved. While the WCHA will develop and promote halter horse competition, its primary mission will be to educate the public about the value of and how to recognize good conformation in the horse.
What is the WCHA's position on issues like HYPP and the use of lip chains?
For now, the WCHA is focusing on steps that need to be taken to become recognized as a not for profit and in forming an association. It knows, however, that issues like you've mentioned will need to be addressed. Again, the WCHA is working to form a unified voice which will work pro-actively in developing positive consensus on issues such as those that first, keep the welfare of the horse in mind, and second, take into consideration fair management and competition practices.
Can I become a member now?
The WCHA is offering, for a limited time, founding memberships only for a fee of $500. These funds will be used as the start up capital for the association. Founding memberships will be converted to Founding Lifetime Membership after the WCHA has been incorporated and membership certificates will be issued. Founding Memberships will be available through September 1, 2007 and membership applications are available from any WCHA committee member or by calling 817-443-0686.
What if I don't want to invest now?
Regular, non pro and youth memberships will become available after October 17. Fees will be $50 for regular, $40 for non pro and $25 for youth.
