WCHA E-News - February 28, 2008
History Being Made in Amarillo
AQHA REGION 8 Experience to Host first-ever WCHA Classes!!!
We're excited to announce that our first WCHA Events will be held at the American Quarter Horse Association Region 8 Experience,
set for May 8-11 at the Amarillo National Center in Amarillo, Texas.
There will be Amateur Classes on Friday, May 9 and Youth Classes on Saturday, May 10. In both Classes the exhibitor or horse cannot
have been in the top ten in the AQHA World Show or at the Congress. Both classes are open to All Western Performance Breeds.
For the $25 entry fee, exhibitors will win $250, $100 and $50 for first, second and third in each class.
There will also be a WCHA Seminar on Thursday, May 8, with WCHA Professional Jason Smith. According to Smith, there will be an
informative session on the WCHA, then a grooming and showing seminar.
And the very best news is that this should be just the first of this sort of event as the AQHA is urging the regional shows to
work with the WCHA!
News From the Dixie Nationals
The Educational Seminars that were put on at the Dixie National Show were a big success, well-attended and informative.
On Thursday, Tim Finkenbinder put on an educational seminar in the Main Coliseum. This was an overview of proper conformation
using live horses to illustrate his points. Then on Friday, in a classroom setting, with a PowerPoint demonstration he gave a
seminar on what judges are looking for. On Saturday, a discussion panel included Tim, Jason Smith, Linda Tigg and J.T. Mitchell.
Mark your Calendars!
WCHA Working Luncheon at March to the Arch Show
Mark your calendars for noon on Friday, March 7 during the March to the Arch Show at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St.
Louis, Missouri. That's the day of the WCHA Working Luncheon, which will offer an opportunity to visit with WCHA Founding Members
and Directors for a WCHA update. Topics to be covered are membership, what WCHA has to offer, why it was organized and the goals
of the organization.
The luncheon, to be held in the main meeting/conference room above the main arena, will feature several professional and
leading halter horse trainers and will give the public the opportunity to discuss topics of interest. The informal setting
will allow people to sit one-on-one with a professional trainer.
The luncheon is free of charge and will be hosted by Doug Landon, WCHA Director and Chairman of March To The Arch.
WCHA Director Jason Smith and WCHA Treasurer Terry Fuhrman will give everyone an update on the Association.
Other leading trainers will be available for answering questions and talking one-on-one with those interested.
Everyone who is interested in learning more about the WCHA is invited and encouraged to attend.
Check out the Code!
The World Conformation Horse Code of Conduct is a real testament to what our Executive Committee, Board and Members believe and makes great reading.
Check it out on the web site at www.conformationhorse.com!
Gene Wilson Recuperating
Gene Wilson, a long time halter horse breeder and enthusiast, was kicked and seriously injured, in February
Gene has been recovering at St Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana but has been released to recuperate at home.
The left side of Gene's face was damaged extensively, but his doctors are very optimistic and he will continue therapy at the
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. We know his friends will be glad to send a note to him at 508 1st Avenue, Gruver, Iowa 51334.
WCHA Meetings at the AQHA Convention
Everyone is invited to a special WCHA Membership Meeting that will be held on Friday, February 29, during the AQHA Convention in
San Francisco.
The Membership Meeting will both update members on current plans as well as provide Committee updates on: Membership Drive; Finances;
Standard Definition; Events; Judging and Education; and Sponsorships, Marketing and Publicity plus, Q & A as well as serve as a
forum for the Board of Directors and Executive Committee to hear from "you" the membership. The meeting will begin at 4:30 pm and plan
to adjourn no later than 5:30 pm. It follows a closed meeting for WCHA Board of Directors, which begins at 1:30.
Both meetings will be held in the Hyatt Embarcadero Garden Room A.
Membership Cards Available Soon
We should have membership cards available soon so that all members will have cards to
document their membership as we begin to have official WCHA events!
News from the WCHA Membership Committee
The WCHA Membership Committee has been finalized and is already getting busy helping to attract more members to the WCHA!
If you have suggestions and ideas for the Membership Committee to attract potential members to the WCHA,
please contact Jerry Bauerly or any committee member. (contact information listed below)
Recent/Future activities include:
1. Members have spoken and distributed brochures/membership applications at several of the State Quarter Horse Association Banquets, such as Minnesota and Illinois.
2. WCHA will be represented at the Minnesota Horse Expo at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul April 25-27.
3. Educational seminars are being planned in a number of the regions.
The Membership Committee is interested in forming sub-committees (Paints, Palomino, Appaloosa, Buckskins, etc.) so that all
breeds are equally represented in WCHA. If you wish to help or have a contact in a breed organization, please contact a Membership
Committee member.
